What is a recognition program and why do we need one?

We get asked this question frequently. Organizations tell us that it's something only big groups do, or that they can't afford it, or that they need to do a better job of it. So we've started putting together a basic guide to recognition: what it means, why you need to do it (or do it better), and how to get started. What the hell is rhodium?

Rhodium is a rare, hard, silver-white metal that is resistant to corrosion, meaning it doesn't tarnish. While the finish of a lot of emblems are referred to as "silver", they're usually not silver, but a nickel-silver alloy or "silvertone". Silver tarnishes and requires frequent polishing. Nickel-silver is less expensive, but several countries have banned nickel-silver beause some people have an allergic reaction to it (not really a problem for us since most people don't wear uniform pins next to their skin). Rhodium is a great alternative - it looks like silver, and though it's more expensive than nickel-silver, stays looking great for years.

Can I get my order in time for our event?

If you need items for a specific event or date, give us a call before you place your order. We can check with our manufacturers and make sure that everyone's working toward the same goal. We can't make a deadline we don't know about.

What are your office hours?

We're typically in the office from 10am until 5pm Eastern Time. We're a really small business, and sometimes you may need to leave a message, but we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

I didn't see a pin with the exact words I need. Can you make one for me?

We're happy to do custom orders, and we have access to many more items than we've been able to add to our site. If you're looking for something in particular, contact us and we'll see if we can find what you're looking for, or find out about having it made.

How do you ship orders?

We ship with the United States Postal Service and use First Class and Priority Mail. Free shipping is via USPS First Class Mail. First Class Mail usually arrives in about four to six business days after shipping; Priority Mail gets to most US destinations in two to three business days. (We've sent packages from our offices in Rhode Island to Guam that got there in two days.)

How quickly do you ship orders?

If we have enough product to complete your order, we typically ship orders within two business days. Sometimes we get caught short on items, but if we have most of your order ready to go, we ship it.

How come you don't offer next day shipping?

Because it's just crazy expensive. If you really need something to arrive the next day it can be done, but it's gonna cost you. USPS (our favorite shipping method) charges $40 for next day delivery - if they do next day delivery to that address. The other commercial shipping companies start at around $65 for next day delivery. Priority Mail typically gets your package there in 2-3 days, and it's only $5.80.

Are all of your products made in America?

No, not yet. We have not been able to find American manufacturers for some items (but we're still looking). Any item made in America is clearly indicated with our "Made In America" logo. Remember, when you buy Made In America you're helping to keep jobs and dollars here.

How big is 11/16"? How big is 13/16"? How big is 15/16"?

Easy. 11/16" is the size of an American dime, 13/16" is the size of an American nickel, and 15/16" is the size of an American quarter.

Can I get something engraved with another language?

For most "latin character" based languages, yes. Send us an e-mail with the words you'd like to use and we'll check with our manufacturer to be sure.

How quickly are custom orders produced?

Each item listing has some indication of how long it takes to produce that item - and some items (like custom badges) take longer than others. Custom orders are sent to the factory as soon as possible; but the actual production time can be influenced by the amount of work in the schedule. The end of the year holidays can be particularly busy. It you need a custom item for a specific date or event, please let us know.

Can I get a custom cut wallet to fit a badge from a different manufacturer?

Usually the answer is "yes". Just send us an e-mail with the manufacturer's model number of your badge, and we'll check to be certain. We have cutouts available for most models from most major manufacturers
